This decision was definitely not solely due to the lack of popularity of the trout fishery.
it was in fact a calculated business decision by the owner of the land - in particular, once he had got planning permission for the fishing lodge he used that as an angle with the local council to show the potential of the site for "other uses".
Although the people who ran the trout fishing operation may have been interested in fishing, the end game was always going to be the marina, or, as another post says £££££.
Stocking policies for the last 18 months of the life of this place as a fishery were minimal, as they ran the place down - shamelessly ripping fishermen off who didn't know what was going on.
But as we're well served in the vicinity with all types of other fly-fishing (including not only DCAC's own Willington fishery plus other great places like Carsington, Foremark, Thornton plus lovely rivers like the Dove) I think it's time to move on.
But I do agree, it is a sad sight of a sad site.
