Default 1st Fish of 2008!!!

Got this wee beauty today (01.01.08)...or rather it got me..(on the back of my head to be precise) just as the wind caught it when I was looking over the side of the ship during a New Year stroll on the back deck!!

The pelvic fins are very leg like - can it crawl as well as fly?

They use them like a rudder traprain, very graceful in the water. I have never seen them at depth but we are in 2000m of water and you don't se much down there.

Aye but there is plenty of other weird things up there though steveo

Here's another fish that I found yesterday, must have got washed on in the bad weather.
Thank christ it this one didn't hit me, that "beak" looks evil!!

That looks to me like a Ballyhoo, a top bait for sailfish and smaller marlin.
