I promised a few of you I would write a few lines about my recent trip to South Uist.
Let me just say that it is a wonderful place with great people, I dont think I was ever made more welcome anywhere in the world. My liver is just coming to terms with the Guinness again after the battering it got from the Wee Dram's.
It's an amazing set of water systems out there, a real fisherman's paradise but like everywhere else so much depends on the weather. We had a real mix throughout the week with gale force winds, flat calm's and bright sunshine - not good sea trout weather by any means. I did however manage to pull fish out everyday and learn a few things along the way. We had one day with some cloud cover and a steady breeze and we have ~ 12 sea trout and 30/40 browns between us.
I asked some time back on here about methods etc and the majority of the replies were based around wet fly. Well let me tell you, as I predicted dry flies worked a treat on my final day (when I finally got to fish them). My boat partner had Salmon on the Blob's and the biggest sea trout the week before fell to a Corrib regular on the Dap! I never got my 10lb'er but that's ok, I'd have been happy with a 10oz'er!
So, majic place, magic people, magic liver, magic nurofen.
Here's a few pic's (if I can manage to up load them)
I hope you enjoyed them,
Gavan
