Default Wild Derbyshire Rainbow.

Ok, it's in the Derbyshire thread but I think this fish and John Tyzack deserve a wider audience as not eveyone reads that particular thread.

I cought it on a #3 weight Sage Fli and would never have landed it if John hadn't been with me every step of the way. Needles to say, carefully returned.

Lovely fish, I never knew that the wild rainbows here grew that big!

You didn't get that one on bread flake from under the foot bridge in Bakewell did you Roy?

Roy,
Sorry that was a bit facetious of me.....
That Tyzack's a hell of an angler isn't he?
Well done,
Matt

With Tyzack beside me? Fat chance

On it's weight, don't forget that's no Stockie. What you can't really appreciate from the pic is it's girth. We didn't weigh it but if John reads this perhaps he can give an educated estimate.

Magnificent fish mate, very well done indeed. I've landed many wild rainbows from the Wye in the 1 and half lb envelope, and they scrap like the devil himself....God knows what this specimen fought like!
What fly did he take? What area were you fishing? Seen many beasties like this one (Browns too) in the 5,6,7 lb range queuing up in the town to take Bakewell tart tossed to 'em by the tourists!
Maybe 4 layers of foam superglued together on a b400 then shaped into a tasty looking cube - off white(pastry) beige(filling) red(jam) dark brown(crust) ?

Good. Well caught Roy..

A nice rainbow; normally weighed in KILOS in the southern hemisphere - so I'll say a good 3 kg
