Default Salmon And Dollaghan, River Maine.

Had a good night with Alan (thewickedpicket) tonight on the River Maine at Shanes Castle.

I had a lovely fresh run salmon about 7lb, Alan had a fresh run Dollaghan about 3lb.

Both fish were returned.

"Its definitely a salmon"

Well done guys ,some great photos,id say the first one's a sea trout, couple of nice fish there too, hope they get appreciated on this site as the dumb rainbows ect. seem to get more comments than salmo or sea trout
That tells a story on its own.
I take it a dollaghan is what you call a sea trout in ire?

A Dollaghan is a lough Neagh trout that leaves Lough Neagh and moves up the feeder rivers to spawn, from about june onwards. They behave very like sea trout and some of the early fish are very silvery. Sea trout flies and tactics work well for them. Night fishing in lower water is very effective.
