I would have thought Oak to be a bit hard going on the hands. Doesn't look like oak to me either.

Well apparently i got the rod as a gift but im not sure what the handle is made of. All i know for sure is St. Croix do not make those handles anymore and the rod could be very expensive on the market these days i think. I'd never sell it anyway. Its a 3wt its the best rod i had used in my life. Took me 10minutes to land a 4lb trout on the rod.

I wouldnt have thought you would have oak grip on a 3# far to heavy

Nice looking rod [and fish] Cromie, looks a wee bit like American red cherry, but not really close enough to say for certain.
