Default USK Trout

A mate and I went down for a 24 hour raid on Wales. What a magnificent place! We fished on the Usk which produced some excellent browns.

A lovely little set of runs and rocks from which two beauties sprang!

This one put up a hell of a scrap!

The majority of fish were carefully returned...... however this one was not so lucky........... It tasted fantastic when rolled in flower, and fried with butter and honey almonds!

I was so surprised by the quality of fishing available over on the East of Wales..... Well worth the two hour drive from Oxford. This part of the Usk was on the Wye and Usk foundation water....

All the best,

Robbie

Hi there,

I caught a number of lovely browns like this one on a size 18 f fly. I caught some on a size 16 olive emerger. However the on in the picture was caught on a size 12 Czech nymph (Green pea - Rycophyla?)

Cheers,

Robbie

Not the case at all, the flesh from trout in some is almost red (Analee, Dromore for instance) lough Mask trout can be very pink aswell. Nore and Liffey trout are white (and tasteless). Its mostly down to diet I believe. The higher the number of shrimps in a fishes diet the more colour in its flesh.
