Default Spey Sea Trout

I had a few nights on the river at Grantown third week in June and did quite well:

Tuesday 19th June

Fished 11 p.m. till 2 a.m. River running at two inches above summer level. Nice night with some cloud cover clearing as the night progressed, a bit of wind now and again and temperatures no lower than about ten degrees. Four sea trout caught, one on a size 8 Ginger Pearl and three on a one and a half inch Needle Fly. Total weight 10.5 pounds, biggest fish 3.5 pounds.

Wednesday 20th June

Fished 11 p.m. till 2 a.m. River steady at two inches. Calm, mild night with good cloud cover. Four sea trout caught, all on a one and a half inch Needle Fly. Total weight 11.5 pounds, biggest fish about 4.5 pounds.

I've done well on the tay and the nith with a variant of the needle this season
I'll have to try the spey in June next year-how do you book to fish the beats? Did you have to pay salmon prices?

Simply right place, right time.... no great skill involved.

On any river, I normally fish association water, if available. The fish shown in my post were caught on the association water at Grantown, six miles of lovely sea trout, and salmon, fishing, accessible to all.... no need to book, just turn up and buy your permit at Mortimer's tackle shop in Grantown. As a visiting angler, paying £565 for your season permit, you will be made particularly welcome by the local members.
