Default Damsels

Went for a walk along the Trent this morning and the nettles were heaving with these damselflies and black spiny caterpillars (which I think are red admirals).

Yaw.................rrrrr pictures are really pretty

I think your caterpillars may well be Peacocks.

The damsel's a Banded Demoiselle.Beautiful thing.

Lol. You're right about the caterpillars being Peacocks.

There were hundreds of them (both caterpillars and damsels). The nettles were black with caterpillars. Loki, my dog, went mental running through the fields and snapping at the damselflies.

I struggled to get a photo of the female demoiselle. Here's the best attempt of many:
