Default Gladhouse Twister

Apparently these things are a lot more common in the UK than a lot of folk realise.I saw my first one in the flesh yesterday whilst fishing Gladhouse which is on the slopes of the Moorfoot Hills. It was a lot more obvious than appears in the picture but by the time I got the camera out it was already beginning to dwindle. It was also a lot closer than it appears, bloody scary looking things..!

I saw one on Llyn Padarn once; this actually touched the lake surface and became a waterspout. It was a lot smaller than yours though; so not as scary.

When we first noticed it,it was thicker and darker immediately underneath the cloubase and the funnel was almost but not quite touching the water surface. In the time it took to get the camera ready (a minute or so) the thing had reduced considerably.
Interesting that only half an hour or so before taking the photo,we were slapping on the factor 25 in what felt like sub- tropical conditions. The air temp must have plummeted at least 10 degrees when that thing went past us.

There was one at millhall last season,it came over the golf course down one of the piers threw an old guys jacket on the water up in the air and over the back of the course and nearly gave the guy a heart attack!!! It lasted about 20-30 secs surreal.

Good photo! Looks great but it must have been scary as in a boat you would be a bit stuffed to get out its way. Its been really thundery past 2 weeks in these parts - not sure sticking 10ft of carbon fibre up in the air is the brightest Still

Aye its hard to tell from the photo but it was no more than 100 metres away from our boat.I was quite glad that it petered out.Though I must admit now that I'm back safe on dry land it would have been interesting to see at first hand ,the effect it would make on the water if it had managed to get right down onto the surface.
