Default A Couple from the Whiteadder today

Was having some excellent fun today until the dreaded flat calm descended upon me.

Still, had these to cheer me up. Never ceases to amaze me how two trout from the same reservoir can be such different colours.

Funny you mention that. On our club lake, you get trout that look like sea trout and others that are much darker. I wonder is it down to the aquatic environment, i.e a sandy bottom, or dark bottom, that the fish adopt a different colouration?

I noticed that over sandy bottoms the trout are more golden and over dark bottoms or deep water the trout are more silvery, but theres always an exception

Sorry David, been in the Lakes for a couple of days.

One on a butcher and one on an olive green wet. Different from previous trips where the fish took the dropper flies.

I love the silvery one its got a real spade-for-a-tail.

Regards

Euan.

You get tickets from a ticket machine at the sailing lodge on the banks. Its £8 on the bank for the day or £12 in a boat (£20 if there are two of you).

Hardly anyone fishes during the day. There are a few more in the evening (they're avoiding paying which is sad).

I spoke to the chap who runs the sailing school. They've had a study done that shows thousands of young trout running into the reservoir from the feeder burns. So the population of trout is high though they don't get much bigger than 1lb or 1lb 1/2.

But they are lovely trout though and a stunning wild place.

Don't tell too many people though! Shhhhh!
