i thought these were brownies but i know think they are salmon parr

It looks like a brownie to me - tail isn't forked enough and its a bit too 'fat.'

*edit - however, on looking at it again, that single spot on the gill cover does suggest salmon, but you can get those on baby brownies as well.

it has the parr marks though i think with a single red dot in them

Trout parr have parr marks as well. From the photo it does look like a trout parr.

i caught them in a tributary of the tweed the lyne its a very small stream/burn
do you think that brown trout will travel up it to spawn?
