Smile Fiona's first trout

Fiona, from Brampton in Cumbria has been a sea angler but decided on Sunday to try her hand at fly fishing. The venue she chose for her debut was Broom Fisheries at Annan, and she is pictured here with her very first fish caught on the fly. It is a rainbow trout weighing around 2.5 lbs and in excellent condition.

Fiona had a size 12 goldhead green montana on the end of her line and didn't panic when she hooked her fish. She took her time playing the feisty swimmer and kept her line tight, carefully controlling the direction and speed with a skill that would sit well on a seasoned fly angler. Fiona was extremely pleased with her catch and says she will be returning to the Broom for more fly fishing adventures.

Congratulations to Fiona, who plans to cook her fish with sweetcorn, spring onions and white wine. A culinary delight that certainly got my taste buds tingling.

Tight lines
