Talking Corrib Beauties

Here's a couple of pics from our recent trip to Lough Corrib.

Click the image to open in full size.

The top one was between 5-6lb and the lower one a little over 4lb. We had a great time managing about 30 fish for the week between us, all but 3 were returned.

We met a great bunch of people over there and with any luck we'll be back next year.

One particular individual, a New Zealander, seemed familiar but I couldn't work out where from. Upon returning to the forum, I find that it was Joey1, it was the bondage breathable waders that gave it away.

Crackin fish!

Looks like you had a good result for your efforts!

As Jim has asked, what methods / flies were most successful?

At a guess I would say fishing epoxys, start of April out of Oughterard, but like the rest I would like to hear some more of the story as I missed the Duck Fly this year and the Mayfly to boot.

Fantastic fish lads and well deserved on some tough days weather wise!
Great to meet a couple of lads from the forum from over the ditch and was some good craic over a cuppa...hope you can get back next year, promise I'll get a pair of waders that aren't so tight round the crutch!

Cheers,

Brent.

As Stylie suggests, we mainly caught on olive and black buzzers although we also had some success with Hares Ear nymph, spiders and small Bibio when there was a heavy fall of Black Gnat from the shores. Area wise, we covered a lot of water but notable areas were Lime Island, Ballandiff Bay, Annaghdown Bay, red marker 43, Lee's Island, Birchall Bay.

As Joey says, the fishing was difficult with little cloud, S/E winds and very sparse hatches from Wednesday onwards with few very fish showing. Mayfly were showing in small pockets but in growing numbers throughout the week and should be higher on the menu in the next week or so.

All in all it was a great week and we met some of the most kind and generous people we've ever had the pleasure to meet in fishing circles. Now, to save up for next year.
