Tony, the first picture is of the Wellow Brook, south of Bath.
Nicky, set up wise use 7ft GRX ¾ or Carbotec rod of the same size & rating. A cheap graphite reel, Lines Mastery (Grey) in 3 and 4. Also use Carbotec 9ft 4 weight for those situations where a longer rod can help giving extra reach in tight spaces. (Love the commando on hands & knees type fishing – stealth !). Typically using 9ft tapered leader(fulling mill, with 1mm Roman Moser tippet ring – attached to 3lb Grand Max Riverge (great stuff but expensive). Flies(remember various trips so far…..usual g/heads 14 to 18, combined with larger dry - New Zealand style (or the old term Wry fly - which is British – just been reading the book “in search of Wild Trout” by Nicholas Fitton – 1992). Also, had some great fun in an olive hatch – light blue in colour, which I tried to match with success (very satisfying).
Blackbird. Cant confess to being a photographic expert – for the good shots there are plenty of awful ones that get deleted !!! Havnt got my camera to hand, but pasted some info from a previous post –
“The camera was nothing special, just a 3.2 mega pixel Olympus D-395.
In the right place at the right time............
Funnily enough have used the camera for 2 1/2 years as a fishing camera - 2 weeks into ownership I dropped it in the river. Having immediately taken the batteries out, I got home & set to work with the hairdryer & then left it in the airing cupboard for a week...it worked !....it has made a full recovery ever since !”
Recall seeing in the last day or so someone on the forum saying that you cant beat just being there and taking shots as it happens – just take the photos - I now keep my camera either hanging from my jacket or around the neck in a quick release pouch to snap pics without delay.
Moonlight, all the fish were returned unharmed with the conservation and well being of the rivers in mind. A delight to see them kick off healthily into the nearest deep pools. The couple of shots on the bank, the fish wouldn’t have been out of the water for more than a few seconds(camera all ready). Havnt ever dispatched a river brownie for over 8 years - hope I never have to again. Its good when one catches a fish you caught in previous seasons & to see how well its grown, developed and prospered.
Happy fishing
