That suspiciously looks like sea lice damage and by a good many too.

An article in Fly Fishing and Fly Tying blames the salmon farmers for the increase in sea lice on the west coast but that looks more like the east coast from the picture.

East coast -true,also there were a lot of sea lice on the fish,looks like they've been at it a while,still i wish i had caught it.
He certainly did well to winkle one out tday.

i think it looks like a lamprey damage.
