Default Teifi Pools

On the 'March 1st' thread I said I was going to Teifi Pools to start my trout season. It's a remote and wild place but a place of intense and peculiar beauty.

This picture was taken in a moment of calm just before sunset after a day of high winds and before a night of heavy rain and incredible wind.

I later learned that my Grandmother died about this time. She'd have been 102 in May. This will remain a memorable opening day.

Stunning place and a stunning photo that encapsulates the area well. Very sorry to read of you Grandmother' passing, Paul. I hope that you and your family are well.

TT.

p.s. I did chuckle this morning when I saw the weather and thought of you camping in such a remote, un-forgiving place!

Thanks for sharing the photo Paul - really atmospheric shot. Sorry to hear about the grand old lady. Take care.

A friend of mine has the rights to one of the small lakes up there. He has a garden shed/cabin with two camp beds and a small cupboard and not much else will fit in apart from a bottle of whisky. The outer, double doors can be tied back to reveal a double glazed pair of full length sliding doors. This means that you wake up to a panoramic view of the lake, hill tops and Cardigan Bay in the distance with, more often than not, a pair of kites wheeling over the lake. So beautiful you forget the hangover.

I know of a mountain lake, more remote and more beautiful that involves a long hike in. I look forward to taking my son up there for his first hiking, fishing and camping night away. Forgive me if I omit the directions.

Paul,

My best wishes to you and your family at this time and it is great that you were at such a beautiful place at such a time.

This will forever be etched in you mine.

Paul,

I echo the sentiments regarding your Grandmother - thats a heck of an innings.

Er - I also thought of you (albeit briefly) having experienced the same weather in Bristol - nasty... trust you took the spinning rod as a fall back

Nice shot Paul. Was that Egnant?

Sorry to hear about Gran but that's a grand old age.

Cranefly, regarding your friend with the private lake and the garden shed in that beautiful area. They should take the shed, chop it up and throw it into the middle of the lake.

The picture is of Llyn Teifi - I fished around most of it on Saturday - without a sniff of a fish! It was my intention to fish both Hir and Egnant on Sunday - suffice to say that I was rudely awaken by horrendous wind and rain at 4am on Sunday morning. The rain eventually stopped but the wind showed no signs of abating so at 6am I made the sensible decision (one of the few in my life) to get out of there! Taking the tent down was 'interesting', I had visions of paragliding to Tregaron but by 7.30am I was away. I did stop on the track above the pools to take a photo but found it difficult to stand upright the wind was so strong.

My thanks to everyone for the sympathies expressed.

If it was anything like the weather in Lampeter on Sunday, it must have been horrendus conditions. Got to within 100yards of the Teifi before flood water drove me back. Jessie the lab loved it though
