Default Big Tweed Grayling & Trout

Not very good photographs I am afraid, but here are a couple of decent fish from the Tweed today, both just happen to be the biggest grayling and wild river brown I have caught, and both caught consecutively. As you can imagine, I was very pleased....pity the brown is just out of season - does it still count?

This grayling measured 46cm - not sure what that is in old money but I reckon it might be somewhere between 2 & 3 pounds. I might be dreaming, of course. I lost a bigger fish last week....

About to go back......

This wild brown measured exactly 50cm - I reckon it weighed somewhere between 3 & 4 lbs. It was slightly thin, but beautifully marked. It went like an absolute rocket when I hooked it! It did my blood pressure no end of trouble....

Both fish taken czech nymph, both on same tungsten head nymph, top dropper. Had another smaller grayling on same bug. Curiously, all the fish I've had in last 2 weeks have been on same nymph on top dropper, bar one. Not sure whether it's the position or pattern....didn't fancy changing just in case.

Lovely fish. The brown looks in good nick for the time of year. Roll on Spring!

Well done mate, you are certainly keyed into those big grayling. Same area as last week? I am afraid the brownie doesn't count, but we won't ask you to resign from the Committee.

I'm just fed up I couldn't get down there today myself.

Great grayling. Here in Finland graylings are not that fat... Maybe they get that fat because of eating lots of haggish (insteadt of eating caddis larvaes here in Finland)....

lovely fish, any particular fly? Is that a (cormorant) stab mark on the back of the grayling?

Got them on a simple home made czech nymph - faceted tungsten head, size 10/12 grub hook with lead wire and some harelug behind the tungsten then some tan-coloured dubbing round to the bend. It's been very effective and accounted for all the grayling I've had over last few weeks (fishing 3 different flies).

There was a mark on the fish - not sure what might have caused it.
