Default Grayling-Zilla

One from the Tweed yesterday, on a nymph of my own design.

didn't measure it there and then, as i got it back in the water quickly, however i did gauge it against marks on my rod, which i have subsequently measured as being aproximately 42 Cm's.

As for the fly, i don't want to give the name away just yet (it may be appearing in a well known magazine, and the name is just too good to have stolen yet!) i was bugging though, and the fish took the top dropper. I honestly thought it was a salmon at first. Beautiful fish.

Ill do a step by step for the fly when the time is right. Quite a complicated one, but worth it.

Very nice fish, well done.

I was also on Tweed yesterday and got some grayling. The best one measured 45 cm. Unfortunately, I lost a fish which I was convinced was a kelt, and tore line off the reel as one would expect. Stumbling downstream after it, when I eventually got it steadied in a shallow glide, I realised it was a massive grayling.....much bigger than any of the other fish I landed. It just then refused to move and the hook pinged off.

All the grayling took a home made pattern with tungsten on the top dropper. The only other fly that worked was a sparse copper nymph on the tail which took a large brownie.

Nice fish, makes me very jealous. Love fishing for these on the Tweed. Unfortunately Grayling have not made it accross the Irish Sea yet. Fingers crossed, some day.

Indeed you will, In fact on some parts of the Tweed, you are as likely to catch a Grayling as you are a Trout.

Enjoy your day on the Tweed, and good luck
