Default Lindean Trout

This trout in my opinion was one of the best ever that I have caught. It was a dull day on Lindean Reservoir, managed by Selkirk Angling Club, and I was drifting towards the mast bay. I cast out just a little bit too long and thought I had hooked up on the bush there but as I was about to haul back I saw my fly fall off a leaf and onto the surface ,at this point the water is only 18" deep.
The water exploded as a fish engulfed the fly as I have never seen before, you have heard people say that their reel screamed as a fish took off with their fly and probably put this down to over enthusiasm, but this was the case here. I was only fishing 4lb leader and could not put too much resistance into the line so I played it gently. It took 15 minutes before I could bring this fish to the boat and net it. My hands were shaking as I lifted it into the boat to find out that it was one of the biggest fish I had ever taken off Lindean at 4lb 4oz.
Lindean is stocked with small fish once a year and this was a resident of several years. By no means a monster compared to other fisheries but a fish I am still proud of catching.

A brilliant fish. You shouldn't of killed it tho it could be twice the size in a few years.

Cromie,

I generally release but this was caught over 12 years ago before the general acceptance of catch and release on boat limit fishery.
Nowadays, I would only photograph it and return it for future sport.

The wise old sage voice of reason........ - it is not a crime to kill a fish to eat. Of course catch and release is a good thing, and I rarely kill fish these days, but I do dislike this almost ingrained 'C&R at all costs' ethic - the unthinking, unjustified, kneejerk default C&R response to anyone who happens to have taken a fish.

No need to justify your actions, AC. Well done - nice fish.
