Default Straid brown trout

went down to Straid (N Ireland) on Saturday for a bit of stocky bashing and caught this nice brownie, probably just under 2lbs but would be well over in a few months Roll on March 1st and I can wet a line for them on a river

I got 4 brownies out of straid one day, There is some cracking brownies in it.

how come its open at this time of the year? is there many brownies in it? i never seen any when i fished it

There is a small stream running into it, that has brownies in it. They drop into the lake and grow on in size.

You then get the likes of Easky deliberately targetting out of season fish.

Straid is a rainbow fishery but as rrw says there is a stream that has brought them in (and where they spawn). They are self sustaining and wild as such - there is good feeding and I think the biggest I heard of caught out of it was 5-6lbs a few years back

at this time of the year you need special patterns to target them, I caught this guy on one of rrw's

There was one a spotted a few weeks back estimated at 5lb top & tailing.

good to meet you on Saturday wigger, not sure how you got on but I found it slow going. I think even rrw with his maggots would have had problems
