The amount of megapixels is not representitive on the quailty of shot. The examples above show a very good macro function and a high quality lens to capture the light. At a guess I would say the above shots are about 4/5mps

A good lens (Carl Zueiss(sp) for example the best lens maker) will make a lot more of difference to the quality of shot than throwing more megapixels at it.

Totally agree with you Stylie, and yes you are right.

The camera is a decent one, canon eos 20d, which is 8.3mp. But as Stylie rightly stated it doen't really mean that much in terms of macro - a decent lens can be a sounder investment than the camera, at times. Carl Zeiss' glass is superb, I believe that many of the sony compacts utilise it?

There was a great thread/depate on this not too long ago, posted by a gent named nicepix? I believe. I won't detract from that post as it was spot on and provided sage advice.

These images were actually taken with a fairly cheap cosina 100mm macro lens (cheap but very sharp and crisp). But I have now upgraded to the canon f2.8 macro lens - it's superb.

Thanks for the comments guys. Hope they come in useful.

TT.

Some great pics TT but none of them are lurid pink, in fact they seem to match my fly box pretty well !

The pictures of, what looks like a spinner, are they of the same fly? And do you know what it is?

They did match your fly-box very well, but not any more I believe that your box has 'developed' a beacon? a guiding light amidst those solemn patterns

I think I read that fish see pink as grey? As such, since I'm colourblind, I could fob you off that I thought I was tying hundreds of grey patterns

There's a couple of shots of the same fly, Cranefly. As for what it is I think that it was a March Brown, however, it could be a brook Dun? anyone able to clarify?

TT.

Large hind wings, it could be. What time of year did you photograph it and what size was it?

1. No wonder it had had one of its legs pulled off. Rough lot down there.
2. Do something to make it smaller, it's your birthday afterall .

A couple more to add to the batch:

These were stoneflies that were coming off the river Teifi (West-Wales) back in early April. They were very large, a good inch long. Later on in the month I saw the same species on the Spey, must be quite widespread?
