Default New Year Resolution

I'm just back from a walk with the spaniels and I took a look at the height of the nearby burn and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't roaring down towards the sea.

This burn is less than 200 yards from my front door and I walk my spaniels past it on most walks. The stretch of the burn shown in the photos is less than 400 yards from the sea, in the Clyde estuary, and it not only holds a head of lovely little brown trout, but also gets a couple of runs of sea trout during the year. And I'm amazed to report that I've only fished it twice in the 23 years I've lived here and both times I had a brace of fresh run sea trout. I've never seen or heard of anyone else fishing the burn either in all the time I've lived here.

So, my new year resolution is to fish the burn in 2007 for both brown trout and sea trout, plus I'm going to do a wee bit of bank clearing over the winter to enable me to get a fly over some of the lovely pools on the tight bends.

Bill

Psychiatric help springs to mind
A lovely water like that within a stones throw, where the heck do you fish that is soo much better?
I think the term wee burn is a bit of an understatement as well, thats a decent brook down here.

I know it's crazy Gary. I can put the rod up in the garden and walk 20 paces along the street to the fields leading to the burn. I guess a big factor is that I have always had dogs and this has always been part dog walking and not fishing. I'm going to fish it in 2007.

It looks like lovely spawning water. Make sure you do not disturb any Redds when clearing the banks, if you are going to be in the water.

I certainly will take care. I only intend to remove some of the vegetation on the banks in certain areas to allow me some sort of back cast. It does have a lovely gravel bottom in all of the runs and it has some lovely deep pools all the way up to a waterfall, which is impassible for the migratory fish.

I'll take more photos later further up the burn, where there are some beautiful runs and pools.

Looks a really nice little bit of water and the dogs look like they are enjoying themselves anyway.

You will probably be pleasantly surprised at whats in there lol.

bill, looks like catching s/trout would be difficult in such a small stream, with fly
anyway,i take it was in spate when you did score?
Its a wonder you did not see any spawners when on your walk, looks as though they would'nt be too hard to find?it would give a good indication on the size of the runs, even though s/trout runs have been poor for a few years
now,charming wee stream though.

Nice pics. Bill. Looks a cracking wee burn for fishing. Seeing this takes me back to my boyhood. A rod, reel, a few hooks, a jeely piece, and a jar of bramble worms, and off "raking the countryside", as my mother used to say.
Wonderful memories.

Thanks for the PM Bill, no worries I'll be over next year to hold the lantern while you drag the gill net over the mouth of that lovely wee bit of river.
