Congratulations you got some beautiful fish there. Come on then, spill the beans, what patterns were you using?

That looks like a rainbow mate, blue trout, 'golden trout' (the ones stocked in UK small stillwaters, not ones found in California) ect are GM inventions made up by fish farmers and are not found in the wild.

Hi guys

Thanks for the comments. Bugsy if you look closely you'll see the fly rods as well as the spinning rods!! The largest fish shown did fall to the fly, a home tied pattern, tail dark brown 'chickabou' tail, light olive cactus chenille body (chenille from Steve Parton!) and a soft dark brown hackle. I'll post a picture when I suss out photobucket! We were drifting loch style with a large para-drogue over a channel varying from 14 to 20 feet deep. The wind and thus drifting speed was variable so we were using fast sink lines and adjusting the retreive accordingly. I was using a 'Gladding Aquasink' fast sinker purchased in 1976!! The fish took close to the bottom to a slow figure of eight retreive. We covered the area several times but only had the one fish. My first fish of the day around the one pound mark also fell to the fly. We tried several other areas with the fly also to no avail. We also took fish to the spinner (photo to follow). Most of these to a fast retreive over weedbeds that were covered with about two feet of water. This is a hydro lake so levels rise and fall on a daily basis! When the level falls these weedbeds are exposed and unfishable except for small pockets. Most takes to the spinner are pretty solid and a well adjusted clutch is essential!! Over the shallows where there large 'flats' with a clear bottom you can often see the fish following for a long way. Other times you see a huge 'oily' swirl as they tirn off at the last second!! We are also intending to fish the 'evening rise' this year. We havent done so in the past as we always start early in the morning, thus enabling us to go down the pub for dinner and a few well earned beers (sometimes alot!). Final score for this day was Noggin 13, Paul 2, not that we were counting!!

Watch this space for our next trip.

Cheetrs Noggin.
