Nice pics. but the blue one has two pairs of wings which makes it a Dragon Fly.

I think damsel flies also have two pairs of wings and they rest them along the body. If the wings at rest are outstretched, as these are, then it's a dragonfly.

I grovel in abject apology - Damsels do indeed have two pairs of wings.

I've been fly fishing for almost thirty years, what the hell else have I missed

According to my book, it appears to be a Hairy Dragonfly Brachytron Pratense, which I guess you could tell from the splendid detail in the close-up. Excellent photos. I, also, would be interested to know the camera and lens.

The camera is i Nikon D50 SLR mate. The lense is just as standard

According to the book I have the first picture is a mating pair of the Common Darter (Sympetrum striolatum), the next two is a female Emperor Dragonfly (Anax imperator).

Here is a picture of a mating pair of the Common Blue Damselfly (Enallagma cyathigerum)
