Default My NZ Trip 2004

I've been meaning to get these up for ages:

For those who haven't got out there yet - the photography is easy...just wind down yer window, point and shoot:

In essence we only managed to wind out way from Picton to the Banks Peninsula followed by a few days between Lake Brunner, Murchison and back up to Nelson.

Here's a few pix which I'll try to name where possible...

The Waiau River:

Lake Brunner (where we bumped into the annual "Manland" tour in Moana - resulting in a 3 day hangover)

The Buller River - a large, tantalising and every-inch-fishable river

Lake Clearwater: (Caught some nice perch but no trout alas en route to see "Edoras")

The Gowan River (steepest river in the Southern Hemisphere with the highest fish count per mile) where, despite an inch thick covering of crocodile, I was swamped with sand flies and lasted 20 agonising minutes...

Cup of tea during a downpour at Lake Rotoiti (gawd bless those campervans for enabling some civility into the proceedings!)

The delightful Mangles River - a nice 3lber caught at the pool on the bend - my other half also caught a lovely fish as a novice (albeit her one and only)

One of my best fish caught above the road bridge on the Owen River

And the ubiquitous Cicada - deadly with a size 16 PTN on a dropper:

Nothing too outlandish but you'll need some small sizes with weight (tunsten beads)

PTNs to size 18
Hares Ears " "
Wighted Prince nymphs
Brassies

etc etc

Dave's Hopper
Klinkhammers
Cicada patterns
Midge to size 20

Lures - Grey Ghost, pin fry patterns, woolly b*ggers

There are far better anglers and experienced NZ fishermen to guide to on this subject (eg Tongaririo) but these'll catch you fish.

The pictured fish took this scruffy tungsten hare's ear:
