Yea jim, That fish is nicely coloured. Mostly all the salmon are very pale.

Er dont you mean silver, which means they are still fresh from the sea. The fish above has been in for a week or two. You can see the silver hue fading to the almost brown trout coloration.

Nice pose, was there a shoal of peal in the pool to say you caught them in quick succesion ?

A very pretty little fish - big tail!

Interesting to note that the 'fresh police' are out in force!

Is the term peal used for grilse often in Ireland, the only other place I've seen it used is in A Man May Fish. In the Westcountry a peal is a small sea trout.

Its a beautiful fish. Not sure what the 'fresh police' would think but if there was a good run of them I'd be happy to knock that on the head. Up where I can afford to fish that's as fresh as we ever get 'em.

According to T C Kingsmill Moore “Towards the end of June the grilse, known locally as peel, arrive in Oughterard bay…

I assume these peel are the same peal stylie is referring to

There must have been decent shoal in the pool, I also lost one a bit later further down the same pool.

As for freshness, it went straight back after the picture, that was as far from the water as it got.
