Default Clyde Trout and River Don

Just thought I woudl share this picture with you guys, not a great snap hope to get some better ones to post, but this must be one of the best brown trout I have ever seen and trust me I have seen maybe superb fish from all over.

Caught at the weekend on the River Clyde by Simon Cocker, bronze medalist in the Scotland World Team. Well done Simon and the rest of the Team after 4 World champs you got a well deserved medal

The Fish was 58cm long and solid across the back, the estimated weight was 4lb 11 0zs going by the size of the fish, girth etc. Took a size 14 Barbless PT while he was French Nymphing and decided to lead him a merry dance of over 100 meters downstream and at times he said it felt like it had snagged up on the bottom, but actually the fish just sat there and did not move. Awesome fish. This was one of around about 30+ fish for Simon and Grant "the fisher" Luke, which also included in Simon catch a Grayling of 50cm (hopefully a picture will come later of the Grayling) and many other really nice trouts and graylings. And BTW he landed the fish with no net by hand as Grant came running over to take pictures and bring a net.

The Next fish a trout of 59cm caught on the Don was caught by Richard McHattie a friend of mine and was caught on a Ballon Caddis/Sedge pattern that I tied for him, this fish was also in the region of 5lb and an awesome fish, once again on a Barbless hook and tied by myself.

This fish was spotted rising while Richard waited on the bank patienly for a rise, he spotted this fellow cover him and up he came and proceeded to explode out of the water clearing it by around about 3ft and then going ballistic.

Well Done Richard and I hope all the hard work you are putting in both you and Kenny pays off in the River Final soon

Picture to Follow

The last fish was a fish of 59cm once again from the Don, this time caught by Kenny Riddle a friend of mine and Richards in a club competiton this fish was a lump and weighed 5lb 8ozs and was caught late at night and on a web winged Sedge pattern that I had tied for him, those big fish do like the sedge patterns. I will put the picture of this fish oon when i get it tongiht.

I think I will have to start selling these flies on my website as they seem to be working on the big fish for some, but not for me biggest I could get last night was a grayling about 42-42cm form the clyde and a pile of 3/4 to 1lb 1/2 brownies from the Clyde

Tight Lines Dave

PS Richard did get a fish at the start of the season on the Don 65cm

Fantastic fish. A WBT of a lifetime. I'm not familiar with the Clyde, apart from where it runs through Govan lol. It must be a very rich river. I have read that to get to that sort of size WBT have to become strictly predatory ie, fry and small fish as there isn't the protein in fly life to pack weight on.

Lovely fish, im looking forward to seeing the 59cm

Macsas these fish are not strictly predatory as they still rise to flys and were taken on dry flys. I have seen plenty fish in the above class caught on drys and had one myself this year but I think when they get into the 7lb and above category its much rarer they will feed on flys. I have it on good authority there are plenty trout to double figures in a local river but have never heard of any being landed on trout fly gear.

Amazing fish, can't wait to catch up with Buzz on that fantastic river.
You Scottish lads are very lucky.
