Default First carp on a fly

It is nothing spectacular but here is a picture of the first carp I caught on a fly:

Veyr well done cracking fish! However I may be wrong but the mouth does not look very carpish, well not like the major strains. If I had caught it (judging by the pic) I would be counting it as a crucian or possibly a goldfish cross if they were present.

If it is a crucian even more congrats as they are like hens teeth nowadays as they cross breed readily.

thank you guys.

i caught it on a Emerge-IT #12 fly.

As far as the definition of the breed goes, it could easily be a cross with another race.

I just started to fish those waters here and already saw several different carpish (?) breeds: Mirror carps, scale and crass carps as well as chubs.

I fish mostly at our golf club here in Turkey and the water is a river which got extended to form ponds and lakes on the golf course.

Other fish i saw are catfish, some kind of fresh-water mullet (?) and also something i could not identify: I only saw the back half of a fish of about 70 cm (~27 inches). the back looked like an eelpout but the colour was red. And even a quiet bright red. Any idea what that could have been?

Ignore my post about the crucian then, I was presuming you were fishing in the UK, my apologies.

Sounds like you are having a good time fishing though!! Will have to get out and try it over there at some point sounds like you have a wide range of fish ready to eat your dry flies.

If it is the same, then the thing that makes me wonder is the colour that fish had. it was actually pretty close to this smilie:
maybe even a bit brighter red.

Yes, i have a good time! Thanks

I actually am fishing for a long time in Austria (where i am from) but just started out fly fishing and it became a really big passion pretty instantly.

At my last holiday in Sweden, my father showed me how to fly fish (he isn't good either) as we have a little lake with trouts.

Until my next holiday there i set my goal to learn fly fishing a bit better and therefore started out here without a big hope to catch something/a lot. But it turns out that the rivers here are fairly good but it is difficult as the banks are very crown onto and especially for a beginner a lot of trees and bushes get in the way of the fly.
(and no, unfortunately i can't get any fly fishing lessons here as the locals here have no idea what it is. )

Until now i only got the chance to fish on the golf course where i am working as the Head Professional but i heard/read that the river near Side is a good place to catch some trouts. I will head there very soon and of course report back here how it is.

If one of you guys come out here, feel free to contact me for a session or two (but don't expect me being an expert ).
