Was sat here tying a fly or two when out of my window I saw these , not good pics but hope is enough for someone to tell me what type of Deer they are ?? All I know about Deer is that they taste nice and make for great flies One of them was almost black in colour

I know you Scottish boys get to see a lot of Deer but over here this is the first time I have seen them , was quite a surprise !!

I think there are only RED, FALLOW, SIKA and Muntjac Deer in Ireland and the Muntjac must be shot on sight if your a licenced deer hunter.

hi danny , lucky you having such lovely wildlife around you,
the deer in the picture are "sika" the most common type in ireland, they look like young females but hard to be exact from the pic, the female sika are known as hinds and make beautiful eating ,
some of the large estates will have packs of female sika and a stag looking over them, , come mating season when they change into their "valentine colours" stags are notoriously bad tempered and will charge at anyone near the herd,
tell the truth mate you let rip with your pellet gun..... didnt ya

Why? Are they considered pest or something over there?

"invasive" species although so is the Sika so not sure why only applies to the Muntjac

darwin, my brother is a park ranger and part of his job is to cull the deer herd,
this is done at certain times of the year to keep the herds in a manageable capacity and to stop extensive damage to trees shrubs etc and other properties such as golf courses etc etc, by containing them to a certain area they can be controlled , monitored , and be kept healthy,
stags tend to be rogues and will travel vast distances to find females especially during the mating season,
as for the shooting on sight!! their are only certain times and areas where one might raise the sights of a gun and pull the trigger, so thats a bit exaggerated,
