There ye go, Dave... basically just fetched out some detail in the cabin that the eye would have seen when you took the shot, but the camera missed due to exposing for the sky...

Agree re cabin and foreground. (As an aside, a flash unit, out of frame on the left side would have made for a very dramatic shot.)

I would still add a Curve (or more basic Levels) adjustment to bring the white point up. If you do that before Rob's adjustments you'll notice that the sky in the top right was actually quite clear. Adding it after Rob's adjustments keeps that top right corner overcast. Rob, you wouldn't have brushed in some cloud now would you?

I know nothing about photography (obviously) but it's just like stepping out of the car at Barnsfold, looking at the water - nothing showing and the cold starting to seep in already.
