Hi Scratch, that is a Yellow Tail Kingfish. We were getting them at depths of30 to 60m so not much chance of one on the fly. We were high speed Jigging and livebaiting. Here in NZ these are a common summer time fish, but they are very hard to land, they fight hard and dirty and never give up, I have seen a guy get a 22kg fish close to the boat only for the fish to turn and head back down to reef him 50m down! They get up to about 45kg, but I would not want to be attached to one of that size

.
They are catchable on a fly, it is just not easy! There is a DVD out called Green Tide, that features fly fishing for Kingfish, if you google the title you may get a short clip.
I am heading down to Tauranga harbour in early December and the Kingfish there can sometimes be found up on the flats, so I will be hoping to hook one on the fly.
All the best.
Mike
