Default Advice on camera selection.

Yesterday my trusty Canon IXUS 750 decided to go for a swim in the River Nidd and I'm now looking for a replacement compact to take on the river!

The experience has left me determined to go down the waterproof route and I'd appreciate any advice/comment.

A good macro facility would be useful as I'm entering the murky world of fly-tying and will want to take some pics.

Reasonably competent photographer and value for money more important than price.

Regards

Nidd

Two Threads!! Same question!

Nidd,
my Cannon Ixus 800, went for a swim last year, I bought an Olympus Mu, 850, SW Cannot fault it!!

BTW, I put my Cannon Ixus in the airing cupboard for a week! It works perfectly again!

Thumbs up

two thoughts.
1 Canon PowerShot D10 waterproof canera £ 289.00
2 any compact camera you want and put into a Aquapac Compact Camera Pouch £24.99 available from Sportfish, it's what I've used of the last 5 years, with no problems including dropping overboard in the Bahamas.

Hi any of the Stylus Tough they are Shock proof and waterproof. You don't have to buy a waterproof cover or go to the Bahama's to enjoy it . Wales will do just as good.

That has to be a bonus!! And it's a lot closer to you with some of the best wild trout fishing in the UK. Quite warm here at present!

Have a look at the Pentax range. I have the W60 (now superceded) and is just the ticket. Waterproof and light - I usually have it on a lanyard around my neck so that it is always to hand. Have a look here: Pentax W80 Digital Camera - Buy W80 Online from a Pentax Pro Centre

I have an Olympus 1030sw and like it very much, it's never going to be a DSLR but takes a great photo and has a good macro facility, plus it's waterproof to 30ft...

To give you an idea i took this with it:

Cheers,
