Default Digital Camera w/ Charger?

Hello, I recently purchased a used waterproof camera on ebay but it did not come with the charger for the battery. In the ebay posting it does not say whether or not the camera comes with a charger but I had thought it was to be expected that it should.

The seller says that since he does not explicitly say that it comes with a charger that he did not falsely advertise. His ad had a generic picture of the camera and a manufacturer specification sheet for the description. So I assumed that it would include the charger as that is how digital cameras are typically sold.

Also on his posting it says he accepts refunds but he is refusing to give me a refund because he says he didn't do anything wrong.

So my question is do I keep disputing with him over this or do I just move on and buy a new charger? Do I have any grounds for dispute here?

Personally i would just buy a charger as I couldn't be bothered with the hassle.
If you are after a refund I would suggest talking to Ebay ,as how are you to know if the camera even works if it has no power so you should be able to get a refund.

I think he has you beat.wrong as this may be.But you should be able to get a charger from e-bay.from Hong Kong for about a £5'er
Think about negative feedback.

Have you asked the seller how he charged it? If it required a charger, what happened to the charger - it is certainly a bit off to sell it in a state that cannot be used without a further purchase and to sell it with no word of warning. The charger would be viewed as an integral and essential part, not an optional accessory. I've been buying and selling on eBay since 2004 and have never encountered anything like this. I would certainly complain if the camera connot be used without a part that was not supplied with it. If I was selling the camera and had lost the charger - left it in a hotel room abroad or something like that - I would make absolutely sure it was stated up front that the camera was being sold without the means to charge it. If I didn't do that I would be leaving myself wide open to being given negative feedback by the buyer - an option already suggested to you.

The reason I asked how did he charge it is that some cameras do not require a separate charger, ie one where you remove the battery and put the battery in a charger, or use a charger to charge up a spare battery. With these types there is a plug-top transformer step-down DC current supply with a jack plug that plugs straight in to the camera - you didn't get one of those with it did you? If you did, that is all you need.

If you are indeed stuck without one (as already suggested) the other option is just to take the hit and order a charger from an eBay Hong-Kong outlet.

Thank you for the replies.

I thought that this was dishonest of him but I wanted to confirm. I sent him another message saying that he was being dishonest by not saying that the charger was not included and that since he stated that he accepts returns on his ebay account that he should honor the policy. The camera came in some bubble wrap in a envelope with nothing but the battery so I am pretty sure I have no way of charging it. He had over 300 feedback responses with 100% positive so I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

I think I will probably just order a charger and give him a negative review. I was just worried that he could give me a negative review in retaliation.

If it was a 'buy it now' he MUST accept any returns under UK law.

If not your left with leaving neg feedback and dealing with buying a new charger.

If you paid with Paypal then personally I would open a dispute case against him.. The camera clearly cannot be used without a charger.

Flea bay is now stacked very much to favour the purchaser...

Yep, some good advice there - I think the way it works now, if you paid for it, the seller is automatically blocked from giving you negative feedback in retaliation. PayPal and eBay are both pretty good at sorting out issues like these - and I think you have a strong case.

One more point to clarify... we are all assuming... it is a lithium ion pack specific to the camera, isn't it, and not 2 or 4 AAs that it takes?
