Thanks for the replies
I do have stuff on dvd and cd from a while back but all the rest are just on my computers of which I am getting rid of one and it has about 200 gb of pics on it but after a sort will probably be less.
I may have to look at getting an external hard drive, which are the best to go for ?

You could just rip the HDD out of the PC you're getting rid of, fit it into a caddy and use it as your external HDD Kev. You'll have loads of room on it once you've binned the OS off it.

I will look in to this as the computer Im doing away with has 4 hard drives in it as it was one I built a few years ago when I usd to do a bit of video editing, but it hasn't been used for several months and is just taking up room. Im actually going to go over it a bit and give it to my nephew.

Hi Kev/

Just found this thread. I have a 1.5 tb external drive that is not just for storage but for all the temporary dumps from the card and the editing and JPEG creation and all the rest of it. Frees up the PC from being lumbered with it all. It's a firewire connection to the PC and the card reader, which I recommend over USB if you are starting from scratch. I had issues with USB and Vista corrupting files between them. No problems since switching to firewire.

I also put an archive copy of everything on another 1 tb HDD and keep that at work... just in case.

The ones I picked for no particular reason are "Freecom". Not had any issues at all.
