Default First shot - new camera

I took the plunge and got a DSLR, here's one of my first shots with it (after the obligatory **** shots etc.)

I need to have a play with the white balance, and the lighting, it was a quick set up on my tying desk, the red glo-brite has blown out. Tying lamp directly above, and a lamp next to the camera lens with a pair of the wifes knickers providing some diffusion!! I think it's a smidge over exposed as well so I have a bit of work to do.

Any comments greatfully received. Cheers - Steve

P.S. Rob, I went for the 60mm in the end, the fact that they had one second hand for half the price of the 100 was major influence! On the crop sensor it's seems perfect though, and a good length for head and shoulders stuff.

Nice first shot Steve, no need to show the **** shots though thanks. Maybe worth tweaking the metering over to spot metering to see if that improves the exposure of the fly.

Got a macro aswell then?

Nice one Steve, can't beat new toys eh? I reckon you've only got lighting issues there mate. A little trial and error will soon sort that out. Looks a little hard to me.. maybe some more diffusion?
Don't forget about yer sharpness being down at the wide end... F2.8 won't always be a lot of use to you unless you're going for, ahem, 'selective' focus (at least those shots will get my vote! ) and sharpness drops off noticably past F18. I find that F7 to 9 is a nice compromise for a fly that isn't too 'deep'.

Happy snapping mate

Very good first attempt, much better than my first efforts
