Default Bridge cameras for dummies

Can anyone recommend any good bridge cameras that will take good closeup shots of flies, I don't really want to go down the SLR road yet useing different lenses etc but just an all in one job that will give me good quality shots with not much messing about with f numbers etc. My present kodak digital camera just isn't getting enough detail and is giving very grainy results and I am constantly trying to improve on the quality but its just not possible with my camera even after reading all this great advice in this section.. Even a list of a few compacts that would do the job would be great.

Thanks alot

mark

Mark - I did the shots in the piece on photographing flies with a compact...

Flies with a compact

... with a 2nd-hand Canon G10. I was deliberately tying one hand behind my back by forcing myself to use auto everything and trying to get a good result. If you actually use all the tools at your disposal you can get great results with it. Get one off eBay for £200 or so, if that is your bracket?

15 MP RAW files - the world's your lobster, as Arthur Daley once said.

Thanks noel, tafftastic and capnfishy for the links. Thats interesting reading capnfishy, if that sort of quality can be achieved with that camera then thats really good and would be quite sufficient for what I would want to achieve. I'm not expecting to achieve the standard shown by scratch and yourself which is quite exceptional but this would be a huge improvement on the camera I have presently so I'll keep my eyes peeled.
