I know a few of the lads use the Samsung NV5/NV7 compacts, they have a great macro.

I use a panasonic TZ7 and find it a great allrounder, good macro, 12x optical, HD video etc.

Thats a cracking shot considering it was taken on a compact!

I use a Canon 40D SLR with a Tamron 90mm 1:1 macro lens with off camera flash - the downside of that is the cost of course but if I were buying something from scratch I'd go for a cheap SLR (Canon 350/400D, Nikon D40 etc...) with a bog standard 18-55 kit lens then get some £10 macro filters stuck on the end.

Rob.

Indeed a very nice picture, Pete.
I've got a Samsung Digimax A50 for quick snaps, but they're nowhere as good as yours. Think I need an upgrade.

How about a Canon Powershot A640, great bit of kit, screen can be folded out and rotated at all angles which is dead handy, there's one on bay for fifty quid, and it takes pics like this;

Darren,
Great photo, what is the species as that one is going into my entomology database.
I Googled the A640 and over on this side Amazon has it for $900
