Default How to get take quality photos of flies?

Hey, I'm pretty new to Photography and I'm trying to take some photos of flies but no matter what I do I just can't get the fly in focus. Does anyone have any advice on how to take better quality photos? The camera I'm using is a Canon PowerShot A3150 IS.

Thanks.

Thanks for the Reply.

I tried some of the stuff in that thread and was able to get the quality of my photos a bit better but its still pretty bad.

I'll try taking some photos outside tomorrow and see if I can get them better quality, but is there any other way I can get decent quality photos inside with the type of camera I'm using and without a tripod etc?

a tripod or other means of steadying the camera is the most important thing I found for getting clear shots, a heatpad, you know the with the grain inside them does as a good substitue.

Also post up some pics and some of the epxerts should be able to advise you on what to do to improve

That's the best picture I've managed to take but as you can obviously see it's still horrible.

Your pic is just out of focus, are you using the macro mode on your camera?

Yeah, I tried macro mode but it doesn't seem to be any different from the auto mode I used to take the above picture.

Here's another one I took using the auto-mode setting that looks much better

Thats a lot better but you will see a big difference when taking the pic outside.

If you dont have a tripod try using the ruler method shown in the link above, that does work well.

Yeah that's what I used to take that pic. I'll try it outside tomorrow and see what I can get.

Thanks for all the help.
