the wife just bought me a fuji finepix xp10 waterproof digital camera for xmas,does anyone have one of these & are they any good.craig

I tried the same camera in Jessops two weeks ago, I was interested in its macro facility, which was excellent.
You need to have it resealed every 12 months apparently to keep it waterproof, and it's not cheap either.
Some of the reviews weren't too good either, but all I can say is I was impressed with it, felt nice in the hand as well.

I did pick up the XP10 but it just didn't feel overly rugged to me and having to get it reproofed each year just isn't a realistic option for me.

Had a look at the Olympus 3000 the other day. It does all I need it to do really and has a fairly good macro. It isn't the quickest regarding shutter lag though but at £129 I think I could up with that. The Olympus 6020 takes decent pictures and is waterproof to 5m but again suffers with fairly slow shutter lag etc. It can be picked up for £159 though. If you want a waterproof camera to have similar features and speed to an ordinary £100 compact you are looking at spending about £200 and the Panasonic FT1 would be my choice. This is at present out of my price range and as my family camera is well out of date, I think I will get a normal compact camera (probably the canon Ixus 105 which gets excellent reviews for picture quality, and takes great macro shots, 28mm wide and 4x zoom and costs just £99 from Amazon) and maybe review the waterproof market in another year.

Simply Electronics seem to have about the best prices I can find for most cameras and have free delivery, although Amazon do compete on some cameras.

I have the Fujifilm XP10 which I keep permanently in one of my waiscoat pockets and use exclusively for fishing. I originally bought a Panasonic Lumix TZ7 because the picture quality is unbelievable, but at the first sign of water it died. So now I have a new Panasonic which I use for non-fishing photos and the XP10 which I use for all my fish photos. It's a great camera, and you can even hold it under water and take photo's. Highly recommended and I don't think you will be disappointed.

Can comment on that one.. I bought one of these ( or actually the previous model) at the start of the summer, as I got sick of carrying an expensive digital SLR about it has been fine,

We use the a similer fuji at work as site cameras we have dozens on the go and they seem pretty robust....
