Wont make any difference if they are.
I had protracted correspondence with the leader of the project in 2008.
Any scientific report from all over the world re the effect of beaver dams/lodges on migratory fish was totally ignored, at best, or refuted/discredited at worse.
SNH are hell bent on reintroducing the beaver at any cost.
Just wait till some landowners demands the removal of a dam/holt under the migratory salmonid acts! (the obstruction of migration routes)

bearing in mind beavers would have been found throughout our river systems until they were hunted out in the 1500's I guess your implying that all our migratory salmonids are relatively recent additions to our rivers???

Strange logic that.!
I am stating that areas where beavers have been reintroduced after many years of abscence, have shown a distinct decline in salmonid par upstream of dams/lodges.
Couple that with the immense amount of money and resources that have been invested into improving migratory salmonid habitats, as they are in general, and west coast of Scotland in particular, in serious decline, it seems a bit perverse to reintroduce a mammal capable of destroying many years work relatively quickly.
but i think you might have heard that before.

bert

Maybe not Bert? Remembered this thread from some time back and found this in today's readings. Who would have thought the Beaver would have had such a positive impact?

Do click on the internal links as one shows a Beaver Dam 2,800 feet long in Canada. This dam is so big you can actually see it from Space (Google Earth). 3'ish foot long with a big flat tail; who would have guessed at their impact on their surroundings?

True also many problems with beavers are down to ownership ...
