Amazing Peacock Bass, stunning Golden Dorado and spectacular Payara - hard to run out of superlatives when describing the fishing to be had in the Amazon!

It's all fake.

1st pic: Rutland rainbow + joke shop teeth

2nd: head of an anaconda photoshopped onto a tiger fish

3rd: 6oz European perch held right in front of camera

What next - Indian Ocean charter boats for the coelacanth of a lifetime? Can't wait to see the fly...

It's on my 'to fish list', and it's pretty high up on it.

There are also Arapaima to be had

Are you sure that wasn't an Arowana?
The Arapaima I've caught have been about 6 foot long so you probably wouldn't want them in your tank

Hi,
I'm the Brit involved here! I like Cool Breeze's sense of humour. Love to get him or her out there on a trip with us to see how he handles it!! Me thinks with difficulty ......
He's right in that the Peacock Bass does resemble a British Perch, but that's where it stops! 20lbs on striped brawn and muscle exploding on your topwater popper fly and that will change your mind. These fish are the most agressive and hardest-fighting freshwater fish in the world, bar none!
They readily take long streamers too. Fast strips will make your arms sore and stripping gloves are needed unless you want another lifeline burnt into your palm.
My 2nd most favourite Amazonian species has to be the Vampire Fish or Payara. With a body like a giant Salmon but with teeth right out of a horror movie, these beautiful silver missiles are slash and grab predators par excellence. Also willing to ferociously smash flies, the fight is always acrobatic and line stripping at 100mph!
We also fly-fish for loads of other Amazonian beasts like the Giant prehistoric Traiarao, Pike-like Bicuda, smaller Jacunda, Striped Surubim Catfish, Amazon Barracuda/Peixe Cachorro, Eel-like Aruawana, Pescada or Silver Drum/Grunter, the elusive Giant Arapaima and also an array of foraging species like Pacu, Pirapitinga and Tambaqui also caught on fruit/nut imitations.
We even catch Retail Catfish sometimes on fly as well as lures! Like being hitched onto an express train.
In Bolivia and Argentina we also fly-fish for the biggest Golden Dorados in the world!
