US fly fishing museum to host "Woodstick" festival
The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum announced a two-day event to be held at the Catskill Fly Fishing Museum's pavilion May 21-22. The event is called "Woodstick" and was organized by Fred Paddock of Paddock Fly Rods and features traditional fly fishing tackle made by today's finest craftsmen from the USA, Europe and Japan in a relaxed sharing atmosphere.
Last year nearly a dozen craftsmen from Japan made the journey with equal numbers from the USA. This year, due to the disaster ongoing in Japan, that number of delegates has been reduced for this year's event. Matatoshi Okui (Kineya Tackle) will be present as well as representation from the craftsmen from last year.
The CFFC sends a letter from one of the Japanese participants who we can learn from. It reads, "A lot of friends went fishing today. They are keeping a healthy spirit by going angling. Fishing is not mere hobby for them. Intolerable fear and sadness attack them. They dared to go angling and they become gentle father and husband and come back. Fly fishing is a life for them."
