Default Slovenia in August?

I'm thinking about a 4 day trip somewhere for some trout fishing in August. How's the fishing in Slovenia then? Too hot?

Not necessarily. The rivers are glacier fed and as such water temperature is cool by comparison to air temperatures - it's much like fishing in gin and tonic!

A couple of years ago I had some spectacular fishing in very hot conditions on the Sava not far from Bled.

There's a few images from my trip in the gallery here ;

If you contact the fly shop Fauna Bled they can sort you out with tickets, tackle etc.

General answer:

Yes it will be hot. August is a hot month.

But:

It can also be colder if you hit cloudy weather, rain or something like that.

Fishing in the morning (if you are prepeared to get up early), fishing in the evening is a very pleasent expirience. Fishing through the day, it can be productive, but it shall be hot. Sun is strong so have sun protection and enough to drink. Remember you get a double dose, from the sun and from the glare of the surface. In any case, you shall most probably make a few hour stop between morning and evening session, to get something to eat and to relax a bit.

Me and one other guy were fishing yesterday through the day and had a nice fishing. But it sure was hot.

August is considered as the hardest month for flyfishing. Personally i don`t care about that and have a lot of fun during August. Fish do feed during an August too, it is just up to an angler to fool them. Unless you go to some of those "wild" sections, which many of the famous locations are.

All interesting fish species shall be in open season, all trouts, grayling, chub, nose carps etc. etc., exept hucho.

Hey BlueOne,

I was waiting for you to respond!

Pretty hot day on the Sora as I recall, but fish about - like 48cm grayling!

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,

Me and this fellow actually fished the same small stream as you got that 48cm. Still good, got one 44 and he got 42, and untill they shall start stocking this "empty" water, it shall stay good. At least for those that like wild over "wild"

Btw. next time you come around we might do some nose carp fishing during the hot part of the day. They are cooperative and a bar is in a walking distance if we need to get cold...

Cheers guys. Don't mind the heat so long as I can fish! BlueOne/Steve, any recommendations appreciated.

Hi stevekale,

I think stevel would be best source of info as he has expirienced both sides of coin over here.

My info is biased as i definetly do not like to fish for stocked fish and have a lot against stocking adult and "trophy" size fish and turning waters into disneylands. However, you do get wild fishing over here too, sometimes in very strange combinations.
