Default Fishing in Florida around Plant City

Hi all,

Next year I'll be likely heading to Plant City, Florida for a holiday as that's where my wife's sister lives. Possibly February/March

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what sort of fishing is available around the area.

It's about an hour from Tampa (I believe) so any information about the fishing (salt or fresh water) in the general would be appreciated. I'll probably have access to a car.

Any personal experiences of guides would be gratelfully received.

Thanks in advance.

There is a lot of fishing available both fresh and salt. You can hire a guide, or pick up some local information, and try self guiding depending on your level of expertise. There is some good beach fishing for snook, you just have to avoid the beach-goers and shell collectors.

Let me know if you need more info.

Default FLORIDA FISHING

I got to Florida in the third week of March the other year, hoping to catch some Snook, but on hearing some advice from a guy in Bass Pro shop he said they had all moved out to deeper water a week before. Little bit gutted but still enjoyed my fishing!! Sanibel Island is a good place for Snook, you can fish most the way round it. South of Tampa you have St. Petersburg where you can fish from the pier, sometimes good but the best place is on the right hand side of a car park by the pier, especially in the evenings. If you can get chatting to one of the locals with a boat you might get a chance to fish out from shore, some of the back waters are good for both Tarpon and Snook.
I believe it is about March that Tarpon move in.
