Default South of France July/August 2010

I've booked a family holiday this year staying at 2 centres:

Provence near the Gorge de Verdon
Languedoc-Roussillon at Mirepoix near Carcassonne

Does anyone know if it's worth looking for trout/grayling near either destination? A guided day woul;d be good if available.

Cheers,

Gudgeon

Hi Gudgeon;

I'll look up a few sites and send them to you tomorrow but if you're going to be there end of July and beginning of August you may have to drive a bit to get to a river with enough water and low enough temperatures to fish for Trout anywhere around Carcassone. Gorge du Verdon will be a lot more interesting but where exactly as that area covers a fair amount of territory. Around Iles sur Sorgues you have got some fantastic fishing in the Sorgue and near the Fontaine de la Vaucluse. Some sites below that might be of help. I'll be there in April and the wife has kindly consented to letting me and the daughter have a day of fishing so with a little luck I'll have some more to tell you after the Easter break.

Take care

Terry

There are definitely trout in the Verdon and, I believe, grayling too. It's also hard to imagine a more beautiful place to fish. We spent a few days in Moustiers Sainte Marie a couple of years back and I remember seeing trout in the little stream that flows through the village and down into the Verdon.

Oh, hold on – here's a guide too!

Oh my goodness me that looks fantastic. Even if I have to leave clean pants, socks and the kids at home I'll pack some tackle.

Thanks for taking the trouble to post.

regards,

Gudgeon

Gudgeon (or anyone else); Any feedback on what the fly fishing is like in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, where to fish, etc.? I've booked a few weeks in August near Villabrix and will take a rod if it's any good. I'm going on the TGV though so will take light tackle only, i.e. no waders.

Also, how does the Carte de Pêche Vacances work? Is it like a rod license only, and you then need permission from the riparian owner?

Thanks for any advice.
