Default New zealand south island

I just noticed that in all the fishery reports from around the world, everywhere is covered but NZ.
So heres a game of spot the trout!

And a plug for a local guides web site which now has a regularly up dated blog of the fishing season New Zealand dry fly fishing - Mataura brown trout

( that is not a bunch of photos we have seen dragged out half a dozen times and claims that this is what has just been happening down our end!!).

Check out the seat trout!
For any one going soon this a nice update on the conditions down there and hints about the flies
enjoy your trip!
look forward to the photos on the forum when you get back!

To be fair its not a bad site, but the pic of the dead dried up trout on the front page is no beauty.. especially considering there are some far better fish in his gallery...

FYI some great photos get posted here from time to time (a lot of scrolling required but if you're as bored as I was on Xmas day you'll eventually get through the lot):

Here's some highlights taken by the brother of a guy I went to school with (username Kakahi):

There great pics... it looks sunny and warm.I am deeply green with envy.

To be fair on david he doesnt pick his clients they pick him in droves mostly Japs as he is fluent. I like his site cause he is no nonsense and doesn't try to glorify it. Your not dissapointed by him or the place. Its just as it comes on the site... It's honest.

No chance i would go skiing.. Way to risky.. I nearly wrapped myself in cotton wool before my trips down under. Can't imagine what i would have done had i sprained a wrist or something...

95% of the forum are snowbound and cursing the white plague, Not even able to go out and worry the Grayling.
And you not only go off and have a ball in it ...... but you rub our noses in it too.
If karma does exist in this universe, then a wee sprain to the shoulder is the least you can expect....
I am thinking in four weeks you will be stood on the banks of some gin clear New zealand River watching sucidal mice attempting to reach the far bank, while the 8lb brown trout of inevitable doom is grinning underneath the timorous wee beastie, and wondering if it can squeeze another one in.
I am thinking dusk on the Matuara when the whole surface is alive with 4lb+ trout rising like metronomes, and a small solitary liitle olive survives the maelstrom of ephemeroptera doom, to flutter across to where you stand, with the secret identity of the very insect that those dream-of-a -lifetime trout, are fixated upon.
And as it lands with that answer, that all anglers in NZ seek , alighting so gently upon your arm.
You look down at the plaster cast on your casting arm and you Weep!

Shame on you Steve kale! shame on you!!
