Fly Fish Florida is on a distinguished road
Default Florida (Miami) Peacock and Largemouth Bass Report

It's great to be back home and back to work on the local water's! I returned to some great fishing in the Everglades and had my best day since last April yesterday where Jim Gildea of the Boston area and myself combined to catch 202 largemouth bass and 53 peacock bass up to 4 pounds using floating Rapalas and a variety of soft plastic baits. The Oscars were hitting as well and we caught a bunch of them too. The day before George May of Plantation, Florida fished with me in the glades and we caught over a hundred largemouth bass on Slingipedes and Centipedes. Water levels have stabilized at a pretty good level in the southern part of the glades due to Water management pumping water in still but are dropping up to the northern areas.

It's a great time to get the kids out as well, lots of fish to be caught.

You can't go wrong!

Tight lines,
Alan Zaremba

Vey nice, is it true Peacock Bass were introduced as a predator to eliminate "pest" species.

Where the wandering water gushes
From the hills above Glen-Car,
In pools among the rushes
That scarce could bathe a star,
We seek for slumbering trout
And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

Yes they were introduced by Florida Fish and Wildlife as a control measure to reduce invasive species that were getting a hold. Now they have created a great sport fishing resource in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale area. Their spread is restricted by the tempreature, as below 60 Deg F, there is a fish Kill problem. So the hotter the better for the peacocks.

Another control measure is the introduction of Triploid Grass Carp to help reduce weed issues. There are some huge carp about, and I was lucky enough to get a 20LB+ on a 5# Fly outfit earlier this year. I shall be trageting some that I have seen at twice that size.
