Default Fishing in Andorra and the.....

HI all

I am new here and hope to learn more about fly`s and fly fishing.

Are there any one who knows if one can go fishing in Andorra? And how about the French/Spanish mountains around?

Thanks for helping

Hi Dino,

Though I've never been, I believe there is good fishing there. There is an outdoor chain there called Casa Pintat, who is incredibly a Winston dealer, so I would imagine it's good. Check their website out (though in Spanish).
Fishing is very good in the Pyrenees. Quite a few on here have gone to fish that region, including me, and I have enjoyed it immensely. You can do it DIY (an english guy has put out some guides about fishing in Spain which are good) or if you've got the cash then contact Ivan at Salvelinus, he's the director and a super chap and fisherman.

CHEERS,

Hello Sevel

Thanks for the info.

I like to go there next spring-early summer. And oh yes, I like to go and fish by myself to. If I can...Spanish..hmm..french..mm...Fingers crossed.
I was asking about Andorra because, I will visit the country and like to try out the fishing as well.
Oh, yes for sure also the surrounding French and Spanish rivers. Have never been in the Pyrenees, but its a dream. They do look a lot like the small streams we have in my home country, Norway. So, I have to give them a try, and next year I will go.

Where did you go?
Any tip on what flies are good to bring?

Thanks for helping me

I haven't fished the Pyrenees but I've holidayed in Catalonia a lot. Rather than brushing up your Spanish and French why not get a teach-yourself Catalan CD? I doubt you could become fluent but it would serve you well both sides of the border (and in the Balearics) and helps breaks the ice with the sometimes fiercely anti-Castilian (and I would imagine anti-Parisian but I haven't been on the French side) types you might meet up in those mountains.

Hey VV,

If you like to do DIY fishing then have a look at these guides : Coarse Fishing in Spain : 8 More Fishing Guide Books
You'll have to get some licenses for the region you'll be fishing and Phil offers good info and tips on where and how to get them.

Fishing in the Pyrenees can be described as "technical". Small, clear, fast-flowing streams with lots of big boulders (studded felt a must, forget aquastealth), making short casts into "pocket water", and lots of high-sticking through runs, etc.
Ivan got me to use local flies, I'll have a look in the box for you. We also fished big hoppers in Alpine streams. These were much more open streams, with clean sandy bottoms, easily wadeable. My nephew on his first ever fly trip got this monstrous 4kg brown on a damselfly imitation, also by a local tier!

The area was around Jaca. The nearest airport is Pamploma.

Cheers,

Hi

Oh, no not one more to learn. I am still trying my best to learn italian here....And here comes Catalan..ai ai. But, it is the official language of Andorra, and as you say SharkeyP, it can be nice ice breaker. Oh, well, time will show. Thanks for the information.

Stevel, that is just the kind of streams, rivers, I used to fish in Norway. Great fun, but hard work.
But, boy, your nephew sure was lucky. Ups, sorry, skilled, , to catch that size on the first fly trip, nice.
Thanks for the link and information.
