Default Caribbean or Mexico in fall 2011

Hi there,
I´m planning a flyfishing trip for 2011. We´ll be two fishermen unfortunately with a limited budget staying for about one week. Our goal would be to catch Barracudas, Jacks, Tarpon and similar on the fly in shallow waters. Our equipment will be 8-10-12 wt. We plan to get a guide for one day and then try on our own. But there are so many possibilities!

1. Does anyone know a good and cheap location (I guess Mexico is cheaper than Cuba and Dominican Republique?)

2. We would like to rent a boat for the week. Do we have any chance to get one for around 50 pound a day?

Any contacts and recommendations would be highly welcome!

Thanks,
Sebastian

Early fall in the Carribean and Latitude 22 is hurricane season.Once into October a much safer bet but still can be windy and best DIY opportunities are a good 3/4hr drive from Cancun.IT is fun but lumpy and better in a Jeep.

Pacific Mexico is a good bet especially Zihuatanejo for Jack Crevalle,Roosterfish,Sailfish,Tunas,Dorado/Mahi-Mahi but £50 per day boat is not reality.$250US for a panga + tip.You can do deals dockside but you take your chances. The top panga Captains are worth every cent.If you need any more info on Zeewat let me know.

Baja Mexico has miles of unspoilt beaches and coves.Accommodation around Los Barriles is very reasonable.Fishing can be wild/incredible.Go on the last quarter or dark side of the moon. They have Kayaks for hire in some spots here.I would live there if I could....Flight gateways from Europe via Dallas and Houston. From UK we could make a same day connection via Dallas and be in Baja around 7pm.Good luck.

JP

Take a look at rainbow inn eleuthera rates are resonable and included a car.
Eleuthera is known for it's DIY Bonefish although you can hire a local guide if you wish. There is all the information you need to know about the place on Reel-Time.com - The Internet Journal of Saltwater Fishing
